It’s 2013, I’m a design student who has been doing just that, designing. However, my main passion which is illustration has taken a complete back seat to my university work and I’m beginning to question my original intentions of a style.

Looking into so many styles of illustration, editorial work, illustration for apparel, character design. I’ve decided to myself, that I need to start again. As soon as I’m finished with my main design project, and most of my work for my end of year exhibition…. I want to learn from scratch, develop my drawing style, set goals for myself, but most of all, develop my understanding of anatomy, perspective and landscape construction.

I have 3 current yearly goals.

1. I really, REALLY want to create a character series based on an original summary that i’ve created for them. I picture myself creating a weekly set of images (1 to 3 depending on complexity) based on these characters that I can even possibly feature on a new blog.
2. I have become slightly obsessed with fashion design, in particular graphic work for textiles, and having a girlfriend who happens to be into Lolita Fashion helps my inspiration for that. So I would love to work on an abstract style that could possibly be applied to textiles.
3. I generally want to improve my knowledge and approach to tackling a brief that involves a concept. So I want to take a month to create a weekly illustration that is based on a topic that I’ve picked from a story in the newspaper I get on the train (which is called the Metro), I think it could be a great experiment!

In general, I have a lot of things to do, but look forward to more inspiration from me, and possibly some new work as soon as I’m finished with my main university project. I shall not be neglecting this blog like I did before. So more text posts about things I find interesting are going to feature too!
